Anasuya Sengupta wins the Cannes Best Actress prize, being the first Indian to do so.

At the 77th Cannes Film Festival in France, actor Anasuya Sengupta made history by being the first Indian to receive the Best Actress Award. She won the prestigious prize for her compelling performance in the Un Certain Regard section of the 77th festival’s “The Shameless,” which was written and directed by Bulgarian director Constantin Bojanov.

Prior to this, the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) student Chidanand S. Naik and his team’s film “Sunflowers were the first ones to know” received the Festival’s “La Cinef” Award. At the festival, the winner was formally declared. Chidananda S. Naik directed the movie, Suraj Thakur took the photos, Manoj V edited it, and Abhishek Kadam handled the sound. India sent many entries in various categories to the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Numerous former students of the FTII, including Payal Kapadia, Maisam Ali, Santosh Sivan, Chidanand S. Naik, and his team, were honored at this year’s Cannes.
