Passengers dining on Tarmac has resulted to IndiGo being fined Rs 1.2 crore, Mumbai Airport Rs 90 lakh.
The Bureau showing Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) fined IndiGo ₹1.2 million for a viral video showing passengers eating on the tarmac while waiting for their delayed flight to take off.
The DGCA, the country’s aviation authority, ordered Mumbai Airport to pay ₹ 30 lakh for the infraction, citing a social media video.
The Centre issued show-cause letters to IndiGo and Mumbai Airport on Tuesday in response to video footage showing passengers dining on the tarmac.
The Bureau Of Civil Aviation Security, or BCAS, has demanded IndiGo to pay the sum – the biggest penalty issued on a carrier in recent years – within 30 days, according to a statement.
The DGCA described it as a “violation of apron discipline” and stated, “It came to the DGCA’s attention via social media that on January 15, passengers of two IndiGo planes were on the apron for an extended period of time at the CSMI Airport, Mumbai (MIAL).
