After Vivah, Amrita Rao recalls receiving several marriage proposals from US NRIs.
While Amrita Rao has appeared in a number of films over the years, the Sooraj Barjatya-directed Vivah is definitely one of her most popular and biggest blockbusters. She recently spoke candidly about her experience working on the film, her relationship with co-star Shahid Kapoor, and the film’s response in 2006.Amrita recalled the influence of Vivah when chatting with an interviewer.“So when Vivah released, I would get these proposals, and we didn’t have so many smart phones back then, so I would mostly get these letters from guys in Canada and the US. They used to send me photos with their house, their moms and their cars. I used to laugh back then at these things. But now when I look back at it, I think of the impact that one role has, they just want to get married to you. It was so magical,” Amrita raved.
Amrita previously stated that when her now-partner Anmol saw Vivah with his mother, she wanted Anmol to ‘get her a daughter-in-law like Poonam (Amrita’s character).’In the same interview, Amrita discussed the film’s early mixed reviews, with some critics labelling her role “regressive.” Nonetheless, filmmaker Barjatya stated that she should not be influenced by critiques because the audience ultimately decides the fate of a picture. As it turns out, Vivah’s popularity resurrected the careers of its lead actors Amrita and Shahid, as it grossed over Rs 100 crore at the box office.
Vivah was Kapoor and Rao’s fourth collaboration as starring co-stars, and their first with director Sooraj Barjatya.
