Digital Rights to Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi sold for a massive amount
Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first collaboration, Gangubai Kathiawadi has been making a lot of buzz for almost a year now. The film is based on the life of brothel owner Gangubai Kothewali of Kamathipura. The film also stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raj and Seema Pahwa with cameos by Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi and Huma Qureshi.
Alia is currently winding up the shoot of the film with two songs left in the schedule. But even before the post production and the theatrical rights of the film have been sold, an online portal has reported that the film’s digital rights have been bought by an OTT giant for a whopping amount. The portal reported a source revealing, “The post release streaming rights of Gangubai have been sold to an OTT giant for a hefty sum in the vicinity of Rs 70 crore. The paperwork is currently underway. The star-cast, grandeur and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s goodwill have led the team of Gangubai towards striking this massive deal. His films have a loyal audience outside India too, and the streaming platform too has a base to cater to them.”
Furthermore, it suggested that the film is being offered over Rs. 100 crores to release in theatres but no decisions have been taken on the same yet.
