Model Lauren Wasser lost a leg after using a tampon

After using a tampon while on her period Lauren Wasser, a 29-year-old model started suffering from flu-like symptoms in 2012, It led to a heart attack which left her on life support. During the same year, Wasser was diagnosed with toxic shock syndrome (TSS) that began consuming her legs. Finally, she had to get her right leg, below the knee, amputated.

Doctors had advised her to get both legs amputated, Wasser decided to fight and save her left leg.  Since then, Wasser has dedicated her life to raising awareness about the prevention of TSS, including the potential risk of using tampons.

‘In a few months, I’m inevitably going to have my other leg amputated. There’s nothing I can do about it,” added Wasser.
